Women Driving the Middle East and North Africa Forward, One Business Innovation at A Time

Our continued belief in the enormous resourcefulness, resilience and sheer drive of young Arab women has yet again been reconfirmed. In Cairo, Yara Yassin and Rania Rafie are agents of change. These young women work with local artisans to transform plastic bags into high-quality fashion products sold around the world.

Ayat Soliman
Practice Manager
Ayat Soliman is a Practice Manager in the Middle East and North Africa Region, where she covers a variety of issues ranging from local service delivery and citizen engagement, to lagging regions and territorial development, support to refugees and host communities, youth inclusion and supporting reconstruction. Prior to this, she was a Program Leader for Sustainable Development in Central America focusing on disaster risk management, logistics, agriculture and crime and violence. Ayat joined the Bank in 2000, she holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering from the American University in Cairo, and lives with her husband and three children in Washington D.C.
Olivier Lavinal
Manager of the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF)
Olivier Lavinal was previously Special Assistant to the Vice President for the MENA region and Program Manager of the Middle East and North Africa Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MENA MDTF) at the World Bank. Olivier comes from the Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience (GSURR) Global Practice family and worked on urban governance and institutional development, including in lagging regions, as well as on gender and youth. Olivier started in the Bank at the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) where he was Program Manager before joining the Vice-Presidency team. Prior to joining the Bank, Olivier was Chief of Staff of the Mayor of Lyon. Olivier graduated from Sciences Po Paris where he also holds an MA in Comparative Politics and International Relations, and is a Georgetown University alum. Olivier will manage the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF).
